According to the National Council on Aging, aging has changed dramatically in just one generation. There is a new reality to maintaining health and economic security and contributing to society as people age. Most importantly, people are living longer—much longer—than previous generations.

“You can have a great old age, but you need to work at it. Luck and genes are a contributing factor, but you can greatly increase your odds of living long and well by learning the art and science of longevity and by cultivating daily habits like mindfulness, regular exercise, watching what you eat, being kind to others, and constantly learning and growing.”

James Firman
President and CEO of National Council on Aging

Healthy aging is a multidimensional approach.  The following summarizes ten keys to healthy aging:

  • Exercise
  • Sleep
  • Eating Healthy
  • Staying hydrated
  • Managing Medications
  • Preventing Falls
  • Finances
  • Relationships
  • Personal Growth
  • Community Involvement

Central to the healthy aging philosophy is the belief that modest lifestyle changes can produce big results. Mastery comes from turning these lifestyle changes into habits that lead to improved health, stronger economic security, enhanced well-being, and increased societal participation.
